Africa's Oil Dreams

Below is my comment on the article of "Africa’s Oil Dreams TIME, June 11, 2007".

070611TIMECoverIn your article, you picked up some of the vital attractiveness of African oil, namely its high quality, cheap cost and higher security. But such merits are only for a handful of locals in power and greedy oil buyers from America, Europe, China and Japan. What is worse, huge sum of money from oil would definitely expand the darker side of Africa such as political violence, the disparity, corruption and environmental hazards as “curse of oil” without any firm infrastructure of sound democracy all around Africa.

If developed nations do not help African people build their democracy sincerely in many fronts, Africa’s oil would bring only despair but no dreams to them forever.
